Killer Campout (2005)
Review By Gore Filth
This movie is not to be confused with the 2017 movie directed by Brad Twigg. This one was made 12 years prior and was directed by Frank Durant who also directs under the name, Victor Franko. I remember I had watched this movie on YouTube years ago mistakenly thinking I was watching the other movie before I had known who directed it! But anyway, I remembered really enjoying this movie so I was looking forward to giving this another watch. This is Frank Durant’s first feature if I’m not mistaken and yes, I still enjoyed this low budget backwoods slasher!
A pretty large group of friends go camping in the woods and are hunted by a mystery killer in the woods. Right in the very beginning, 2 women making out against a tree are stabbed with a very long sharpened stick in a pretty killer double impalement so we’re definitely off to a great start! This movie runs at barely just over and hour and for most of the first half following that nice double impalement, there is almost no killing at all BUT it really didn’t bother me at all. With a decent sized cast of characters and pretty short running time, we get to know everyone a little and it’s a nice buildup to the second half. In the second half, our mystery killer who you only see mostly his jeans and work gloves, starts picking off the campers one at a time with some pretty nice kills!
Speaking of the kills, they are pretty gruesome and include, that nice double impalement I mentioned earlier, an arm sliced open slowly in nice and gory detail, neck-stabbing, decapitation, dismemberment, and more! There are a decent sized mix of different types of characters and even though the acting and story aren’t anything too special I really don’t care because it just has that great no budget shot on video backwoods slasher feel and atmosphere and never got boring! This reminds me of one of those fun and bloody slashers that are included in one of those obscure horror dvd multipacks you just love to throw on for the no budget atmosphere and bloodshed! I’m not sure if there’s a physical release available right now, but ask Frank Durant on his Facebook page or check it out on YouTube below!
